Newcastle’s western corridor is growing rapidly, but postal services aren’t keeping up.
- The closest post office for residents of Minmi, Maryland and Fletcher is at Wallsend, which is a long way for residents to travel if they rely on public transport or have mobility problems.
- Meanwhile, Wallsend residents are seeing queues at their local post office grow and grow.
- It’s time for the Morrison Government to step up and give western suburbs residents the postal service they deserve.
We call on the Morrison Government and Australia Post to establish a new post office in the Minmi, Maryland and Fletcher area.
The government encourages GPs to bulk bill vulnerable patients by paying them for each time they bulk bill. That payment is a "bulk billing incentive".
But in 14 areas across Australia, including Newcastle, Scott Morrison has slashed the size of this payment.
Some GPs are now warning that they’ll have to stop bulk billing children, pensioners and other concession patients or close. Others GPs have already been forced to do this.
Labor will always fight for vulnerable Australians. We need your help to get the government to guarantee to protect bulk billing incentives.
The Morrison Liberal Government is continuing its attacks on essential public services with plans to shut down the Mayfield and Newcastle CBD Centrelink offices and co-locate them in a single site that’s yet to be determined.
This reckless decision has been made without any consultation with community or staff. It will severely impact many in our community including pensioners, families, jobseekers, people with a disability and carers.
I’m opposed to these closures and will fight to keep all Newcastle Centrelink service centres open!
You can join the fight by signing my petition below.
We call on the Morrison Government to stop its damaging attacks on essential public services and reverse its plan to shut down Mayfield and King Street Centrelink service centres!
