Federal Member for Newcastle, Sharon Claydon, has welcomed the confirmation that Newcastle-based BAE Systems and TAE have been awarded major maintenance contracts for the F-35 A Joint Strike Fighter.
The award of the southern Pacific regional maintenance contracts will provide ongoing employment opportunities in the region following the major infrastructure upgrade at RAAF Williamtown that is due to commence this year.

Sharon Claydon said Tony Abbott’s plan to cut the Renewable Energy Target will also put upwards pressure on electricity prices, while allowing pollution to rise.

On Tuesday 21 October 2014, the Honourable Edward Gough Whitlam AC QC, 21st Prime Minister of Australia, passed away.
Gough was a giant of the Labor party and political life in Australia and devoted his life to public service. He redefined Australia through his relentless pursuit of social justice and leaves a long legacy of accessible education, affordable health care, and indigenous recognition in Australia.

Federal Member for Newcastle Sharon Claydon has today again called on Malcolm Turnbull to provide answers to the people of Newcastle about when they will receive access to the National Broadband Network.
Ms Claydon raised the question in Parliament today following NBNCo’s release of expanded rollout maps. While it is estimated that up to 47,000 premises in Newcastle will be passed by the rollout announcement, large parts of the city will still miss out.

Hunter Labor MPs have again called on the Abbott Liberal Government to support Australian shipbuilders at a public rally in Newcastle today.
The rally was held to coincide with the Senate Economics Reference Committee visit to Newcastle, where local shipbuilders, workers and industry groups have the opportunity to give evidence as part of an inquiry into Australia’s naval shipbuilding industry.
