23 October 2014
On Tuesday 21 October 2014, the Honourable Edward Gough Whitlam AC QC, 21st Prime Minister of Australia, passed away.
Gough was a giant of the Labor party and political life in Australia and devoted his life to public service. He redefined Australia through his relentless pursuit of social justice and leaves a long legacy of accessible education, affordable health care, and indigenous recognition in Australia.
Thousands of Novocastrians will feel his loss, and I join them in expressing my deep condolence.
