SHARON CLAYDON MP
FEDERAL MEMBER FOR NEWCASTLE
THE HON. BOB BALDWIN MP
FEDERAL MEMBER FOR PATERSON
PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE MINISTER FOR ENVIRONMENT
Federal Member for Newcastle, Sharon Claydon and Federal Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin today announced that a public meeting will be held in relation to the ground water contamination at Williamtown RAAF Base and surrounds.
Preliminary tests have identified perfluorooctane sulphonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in ground water south of Williamtown RAAF Base and Newcastle Airport. These substances have also been identified in Tilligerry Creek and Fullerton Cove and some aquatic life in these waterways.
“Over the past week both the Member for Newcastle and I have met with representatives of Defence and other relevant agencies to discuss our concerns, we felt it was important that the community also had access to this information,” Mr Baldwin said.
“It’s vital that local residents have access to all available information and are part of discussions about a way forward”, Ms Claydon said.
Details of the meeting are as follows:
